About Us

Courtney L. Schamel

Owner, Attorney

Courtney began her career as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Michigan before moving to Oklahoma to pursue criminology. It was during her time with the Office of Juvenile Affairs, advocating for youth in court, that she discovered her true passion for legal advocacy.

She earned her Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law, where she excelled in trial competitions and served as Vice President of the Student Bar Association. Having interned with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office– specifically assisting with domestic violence cases– she’s accustomed to high-stakes environments.

Today Courtney focuses her private practice on family law. She is an active member of the Oklahoma Bar Association Family Law Section and the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Inn of Court.

Courtney also serves as a reservist in the United States Army. Currently, she holds the rank of Captain in the JAG Corps, serving as a Brigade Judge Advocate.

When she isn’t in the courtroom, Courtney is usually outdoors with her family. She loves college football, traveling, hiking, and scuba diving, but her favorite “downtime” is spent with her husband and their three children.

Taylor F. Wellington

Associate Attorney

Taylor is a dedicated advocate who believes that family law requires equal parts empathy and legal strategy. A “Double Sooner”, Taylor earned both her undergraduate degree and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma, where she was recognized on the Dean’s Honor Roll.

Before joining our firm, she served as a staff attorney for Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, practicing family law exclusively and representing survivors of domestic violence. This background in advocacy, complemented by her time with the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office and private firms, ensures that she protects our clients’ interests with professionalism and grit.

When she’s not in the courtroom, Taylor is likely cheering on OU, OKC Thunder, and the Buffalo Bills,  traveling, or trying a new restaurant to the OKC food scene with her husband and daughter.

Caitlin Smith

Legal Assistant

She didn’t plan on a career in law—it found her somewhere between courthouse hallways, stacks of paperwork, and a hard-earned sense of resilience. After several years navigating the legal system as a pro se litigant, she became intimately familiar with motions, filings, deadlines, and the emotional weight behind every case number. What began as necessity turned into expertise. She learned not just how the system works, but how it feels to stand on the other side of the desk— overwhelmed, determined, and searching for clarity. Before law entered her life, she worked in the wedding industry— helping couples plan one of the happiest days they could imagine. She managed timelines, soothed nerves, and made sure every detail was just right. Ironically (or perhaps poetically), her career has since come full circle.

Today, she works as a legal secretary in family law, primarily handling divorce cases. Where she once coordinated beginnings, she now helps guide clients through endings—with the same steady hand, attention to detail, and calm under pressure. Only now, instead of seating charts and centerpieces, it’s affidavits and custody schedules. As a divorcee herself, she brings something invaluable to her role: genuine empathy. She understands the stress, the uncertainty, and the deeply personal nature of the process.

Clients aren’t just case files to her—they’re people navigating one of life’s most difficult transitions. Clients appreciate her patience and quiet reassurance. And she carries with her a unique perspective shaped by experience on both sides of the legal system. From “I do” to “we’re done,” she’s seen it all—and she meets each step with professionalism, compassion, and just a touch of well-earned humor.
